MATHCOUNTS
is the national math coaching and competition program for
7th and 8th grade students. Participants, or "mathletes,"
study a wide range of math-related subjects, including geometry,
probability, metric measurement and measurement conversion,
and algebra. These mathletes compete as individuals and
on teams, in both written and oral events. For the problem
of the week, the math challenge or to learn more about the
program, visit the site at http://mathcounts.org/.
In Georgia,
over 6000 students from approximately 250 schools participate
annually in MATHCOUNTS. Nationally, over 350,000 students
from more than 7400 schools compete each year.
This
year, Habif, Arogeti & Wynne is sponsoring the Atlanta
Public Schools' participation in MATHCOUNTS. Thirteen Atlanta
middle schools competed in MATHCOUNTS this year, up from
two in 1999. HAW is also a lead sponsor of the MATHCOUNTS
state competition to be held March 25th at the BellSouth
Training Facility.
